Diagnostics pancreatic disorders

Diagnostics

Various investigations are used to diagnose pancreatic disorders, including CT scan, ultrasound and MRI scan. These imaging techniques are used to accurately determine the type of abnormality. In the case of a tumor, this examination can also help determine the type and stage of the tumor. The type refers to the type of tumor or from which cells the tumor originates. The stage refers to how far the tumor has developed. You may need further investigations after a scan, such as a visual examination of the bile ducts and the pancreatic duct (ERCP) or an internal ultrasound (endo-ultrasound). Biopsies for tissue examination of an abnormality in the pancreas or bile duct can also be taken via an ERCP or endo-ultrasound. Laboratory tests are often also carried out.
